The sound of MKS

According to the notes this is just "a bit of fun", mash up  laid down at the end of a recording session in California. Sounds a lot like TLC, only better.

Can't wait for the album!

MKS live and unplugged

Mutya, Keisha, Siobhan live in front of a camera, acapella, no backing instruments, no autotuner.

 Amazing!

From new to old

From new to old:

Look what Keisha's found, from the 1990s:

Found a bag full of old demo tapes from myself, shiv & mut singing when we were 12 lol There's at least 30 tracks! Sounds so funny & Cute!

This casts a new light on the origins of the group as Keisha is saying they sang together at least three years before they released Overload. The name may not have been their idea but this makes clear they were not, at root, a studio band.

Something amazing :-)

It could still be that Keisha, Mutya and Siobhan are working on three separate solo albums - even though Keisha's been working on hers for several years.

But these tweets today from two of them suggest something else "amazing" is about to emerge. And what's this intriguing comment from Keisha about the "style of music"?

Keisha Buchanan ‏@keisha_buchanan Studiooooooo This album is sounding amazing. I'm so proud to stand by this record and style of music :-)

Mutya buena ‏@MutyaBuena_ Still @ studio makin amazing music best by far can't wait for all to hear ;-)

Strings and studio magic!

The reunited band seem to have been recording this afternoon judging by Mutya and Keisha's tweets.

Keisha's tweeted: Fat beats, strings, beautiful melodies... :-)

Sounds like hard core Sugababes to me!

 Maybe like this:

Reunion band's first single?

Siobhan tweeted last night: "Oh boy, it's a first single!!! We killed it today"

Officially, of course, she could be referring to her new solo project. But then why the "we"?

Somebody asked Keisha if her first single was ready. Her reply: "Getting there :-)"  She'd earlier tweeted: "Studio session was soooo dope!!! " Shortly after somebody asked Mutya whether she was speaking to any of the other Babes. Her denial came (as it did in January): "We dnt speak but were kl".

Curious that as a few hours later she was out clubbing with Keisha - and here's the evidence: http://yfrog.com/mnysztej

Bet they were celebrating the completion of that first single. It's gotta be good! And here's a reminder of just how good it could be:

Siobhan in the studio

And tonight Siobhan Donaghy confirms that she has given up her job to return full-time to music. That must mean a good contract....

I've never worked in the city. I worked for Storm Model Agency as a booker. Extremely sad to leave. But music is a callin'

One Touch - again?

All credit to Popjustice for this brilliant scoop. Love the idea that Keisha, Siobhan and Mutya would call themselves One Touch. These three could only produce brilliant music together:

And more on this here:

But why can't they write their own songs? Siobhan and Keisha between them are definitely capable of great songs.

And before we all get too excited Keisha has tweeted this today (Tuesday):

hun there's no new song with me and a group??? Not sure what you heard xxx

Meanwhile last night (Wednesday 25th) MTV claimed to have confirmed the story:

Is this getting exciting or what?

Who are the legal Sugababes? goes to court

Back in October, I asked Who are the legal Sugababes?

Keisha was made to sign all sorts of legal documents but what about Mutya and Siobhan? It was a good question, one that Mutya herself was pondering, it now emerges.

It's now been reported Mutya's filed a suit to recover the name. Here's the ITN version of the story. Keisha and Siobhan are said to be involved in the action as joint owners of the name.

Talking reunion!

Meanwhile there's talk of the original first ever Sugababes reforming!

Mutya Buena has apparently met Siobhan Donaghy. Here's the MTV report.

I wonder what they would perform as? Mutya, Keisha & Siobhan would be good enough. There were all sorts of gags going around about what the new Sugababes should really be called - I liked Nutrababes.

The reformed band would be a serious affair - how about Babes No More ?

Siobahn's new music

Really interesting interview here with Siobahn Donaghy, who is about to produce a new album, it seems. Siobahn has produced some really interesting music since quitting the band in her teens. It's a shame she's still quite sour but a sunny personality isn't necessarily the mark of an artistic temperament.

Nevertheless the interview has a lot of fascinating back-story. And Siobahn is quite clear that artistically she could not have stayed with the band in the way it developed.

If the Sugababes are hitting the headlines, lets hope some of this spills over and draws attention to Siobahn's work.

Overload - the original live performance

Here's the original Sugababes live performance of Overload at Top of the Pops, October 22nd 2000 with Siobhan, Keisha and Mutya, all very young at the time:
